Sep-Oct 2019: 8 Limbs of Yoga

This week we are getting into October, which is already the fourth quarter of the year. How time flies!

People are getting busier and busier as it approaches the end of the year. We should be more focused on ourselves, trying to take the time to go inward without being distracted.

We have studied the eight approaches to reach the goal of yoga, to restrain the modification of minds, in Yoga Sutra this year. Among the eight, we have learned the basics of the five approaches;

1. Yama (abstinence, regulation)

2. Niyama (observances, training)

3. Asana (posture practice)

4. Pranayama (breath control)

5. Pratyahara (sense withdrawal)

Those five steps can be practiced through our physical body.

From October, we will explore the rest of three paths toward the goal of yoga.

From here, we are going more inward (intangible space), handling the mind with the rest of three approaches;

6. Dharana (concentration)

7. Dhyana (meditation)

8. Samadhi(contemplation, absorption, superconscious state).

(The English translation is from The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali by Sri Swami Satchidananda)

On the other hand, we will move forward to the next step of asana practices in each class, too. Please enjoy a new technique, too.
