Aloha, my yoga mates! How are you?

April is here. Spring is a season that lifts the spirits of those looking to start fresh and try something new. Unfortunately, the weather forecast for Hawaii, where we live, calls for rain starting midweek again this week, but the days are definitely getting longer.

Let’s stand tall, look ahead, and take on new challenges.

This week, our yoga classes will focus on the spine.

As we’ve discussed, if you’re experiencing shoulder discomfort, persistent neck stiffness, or pain in just one hip, knee, or ankle, the primary cause is often spinal misalignment.

In conventional modern yoga classes, when this happens, students are typically taught to start with asanas (poses) that target the muscles around the spine to restore proper posture.

In our yoga classes, however, we first learn to mobilize the fascia throughout the entire body and hydrate the fascia system. Next, we identify which fascial lines need more work to help the body regain its natural function. Then we practice asanas while focusing on those specific lines to correct our alignment.

With the prolonged rainy season and cold weather, have you found yourself slouching without even realizing it? Start by checking your posture again, and let’s mobilize the fascia while focusing on your spine.
