News of a severe heat wave exceeding 40 degrees Celsius is reported daily from Japan. Please take precautions against heat stroke by hydrating yourself frequently and staying home or within buildings during the daytime.
Here in Hawaii, it has been almost a year since the devastating fires on Maui last year. The scars of the damage are still deep, and there have been warning announcements against wildfires in all islands and the mainland U.S. this summer as it is predicted to be extremely hot. The ongoing impact of these fires is a stark reminder of the need for caution and preparedness.“boiling” due to climate change.
Summer is when the energy of Pitta (water and fire) in Ayurveda is very high. Losing the energy balance of your body and mind is easy, so please be very careful if you have a strong Pitta element in your Tri-Dosha.
This month, our yoga class will focus on Ayurvedic studies, a crucial practice in the middle of summer when it is easy to get sick. We will also incorporate a more extended meditation than usual for a time of stillness and non-judgment. Let’s quietly restrain our bodies and minds, prone to energy disturbances and moving around.
Ayurveda, the "science of life," has been practiced in India for over 3,500 years, along with yoga. Ayurveda also descended from one of the significant Indian pearls of wisdom as a traditional preventive medicine.
It teaches that the natural world, including our bodies and minds, environment, and the universe, comprises five elements: earth, water, fire, air, and ether. These five elements are combined and balanced by three energies called tri-dosha. However, when these elements are out of balance due to seasonal or environmental changes, illnesses and disasters can occur.
Let’s start by becoming aware of our energy state. A quiz to determine your mind and body’s dosha is also available; if you are interested, please get in touch with Takae.
